Briefing on Operation IRINI Gender Action Plan for International Women’s Day

The occasion of International Women’s Day provided a valuable opportunity to celebrate the women personnel of the Operation and to present a briefing on the IRINI Gender Action Plan to address gender issues in accordance with the EU Strategy for Gender Equality.
The briefing, organized by the Gender Advisor (GENAD), was attended by the Operation Commander, RAdm Valentino RINALDI, Deputy Commander, RAdm Guillaume FONTARENSKY and Operational Headquarters staff and provided an interesting moment of reflection and deepening with the aim of strengthening and promoting gender issues for the enforcement of human rights, non-discrimination and gender equality.
The Gender Action Plan aims to establish a suitable environment in EUNAVFOR MED Operation IRINI in order to integrate and mainstream gender perspectives as a crucial strategy, along with gender balance and specific actions to maintain gender equality and women’s empowerment in all aspects of the Operation.
Operation IRINI provides a specific training on gender issues through the Work Up Staff Training (WUST), which consists of lectures and courses on the e-learning platform, familiarization with IRINI Standards of behavior and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and update briefings. In addition, GENAD is a constant point of reference for all staff personnel.
Human rights are fundamental principles of European values and are recognized as a priority in all EU policies; in this respect EUNAVFOR MED IRINI on International Women’s Day reaffirms the importance of women’s rights and gender equality.
