The German Parliamentary State Secretary Mr. Thomas Hitschler visited the OHQ of Operation IRINI in Rome
Rear Admiral Stefano TURCHETTO, the Operation Commander of the EUNAVFOR MED Operation IRINI, met the German Federal Ministry of Defence’s Parliamentary State Secretary, Mr. Thomas Hitschler.
The State Secretary, very pleased and impressed by the Headquarters effectiveness, met the Operation Commander and brought to the German Community of the OHQ the Nation’s closeness. .
Mr. Hitschler also visited the Joint Operation Centre, the operational heart of the headquarters, to see first hand how IRINI is supporting the enforcement of the arms embargo on Libya, the prevention of illicit export of petroleum and the disruption of the business model of human smuggling and trafficking.
The visit reaffirmed the importance of the vital and fruitful participation of Germany to the Operation that among the current 24 supporting Member States is an invaluable contributor in terms of assets and personnel.
