A delegation of Mediterranean Foundation of Strategic Studies visited EUNAVFOR MED IRINI OHQ
Today, a delegation of Mediterranean Foundation of Strategic Studies – a French Institute of Research, visited EUNAVFOR MED IRINI Operation Headquarters in Rome and met with IRINI’s Operation Commander, Rear Admiral Stefano Turchetto, and IRINI’s Deeputy Operation Commander, Rear Admiral Guillaume Fontarensky (French Navy) .
The delegation appreciated IRINI’s commitment to support the implementation of the United Nations arms embargo in Libya, the prevention of the illegal export of crude oil and the disruption of the business model of human smuggling. The importance of this Security Operation supporting the stability and peace in the Mediterranean area was emphasized by Rear Admiral Guillaume Fontarensky in his welcome address.
During the event, the Baltic delegation visited the Joint Operation Centre (JOC), the operational heart of the Headquarters, from where all the activities are controlled.
