Cyber Phalanx 2024 exercise
The quick, real-operation-based, adaptable (QRA) Cyber Phalanx 2024 exercise, developed by the European Defence Agency (EDA) with support from private contractor IABG and the EUNAVFOR Med IRINI OHQ staff, was successfully concluded at the IRINI Operational Headquarters (OHQ). This pilot project initiative was designed to enhance cyber awareness and strengthen strategic decision-making as part of the EU’s broader efforts to bolster its cybersecurity capabilities.
Over the past three days, participants at IRINI OHQ engaged in a series of simulated scenarios to refine their threat detection and response strategies, with a particular focus on enhancing internal procedures and organisational coordination. The exercise provided valuable insights into improving cyber resilience and preparedness within the operational framework.
As a pilot project, the QRA Cyber Phalanx 2024 has proven instrumental in highlighting the importance of fostering a robust cyber culture within the IRINI OHQ. The knowledge and experience gained from this exercise will lay the groundwork for similar initiatives across other EU headquarters, supporting the EU’s Strategic Compass and Maritime Security Strategy objectives in the field of cybersecurity. These efforts are a vital part of the EU Common Security and Defence Policy’s (CSDP) approach to strengthening its collective cybersecurity resilience.
