Visit of the EU Ambassador to Libya, H.E. Nicola ORLANDO
Today, 16th Oct. at the IRINI Operational Headquarters (OHQ) in Rome a notable meeting took place between EUNAVFOR Med IRINI OPCDR, Rear Admiral Valentino RINALDI, and EU Ambassador to Libya, H.E. Nicola ORLANDO. Admiral RINALDI and Ambassador ORLANDO shared perspectives on the IRINI State of Play and the operations’ Strategic Review focusing on the implementation of the mandate and possible future developments in line with the EU Strategic Compass and Maritime Security Strategy.
Conversation went ahead stressing key issues concerning Libya and the broader challenges the central Mediterranean is facing, with a view on operational achievements. Ambassador Orlando highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation to address the regional complexities and international tensions.
Both parties emphasized the crucial importance of maintaining an ongoing dialogue through enhanced coordination and shared initiatives, also including key leaders’ engagement. Today’s meeting lays groundwork for an enduring synergy between EUNAVFOR Med IRINI and EUDEL Libya, aiming to seize opportunities and deepen cooperation within the EU Integrated Approach to external conflicts and crisis, combining multidisciplinary efforts and rooted collaboration.
