COMMON SECURITY AND DEFENCE POLICY ORIENTATION COURSE FOR EUNAVFOR MED IRINI.

From March 24th to 28th, the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Orientation Course was successfully conducted at the EUNAVFOR MED IRINI Operational Headquarters (OHQ). The course was organized by the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) in cooperation with École Universitaire Internationale.

The CSDP Orientation Course provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the European Union’s security and defence framework, covering key topics such as crisis management, decision-making structures, and the EU’s role in global security. It is designed to enhance knowledge and foster cooperation among military and civilian personnel involved in EU-led missions and operations.

The personnel of Operation IRINI, whose main task is to enforce the arms embargo in Libya imposed by UN Security Council resolutions, had the opportunity to gain in-depth insights into the broader strategic and institutional framework of the EU Security and Defence Policy.

High-level academic and military speakers trained, directly at the OHQ, 23 staff members from the States contributing, on key EU Defence issues, such as the Global Strategy and Strategic Compass, security threats and climate change challenges, human rights and legal aspects, future perspectives and development in EU Defence.

The course is an integral part of the EU and Operation’s efforts to ensure the widest dissemination of CSDP issues to strengthen the training and professionalism of personnel ensuring enhanced operational performance and alignment with broader European strategic objectives.

The ultimate goal of this orientation course is to further strengthen the operational effectiveness of Operation IRINI and consolidate its key role in the Mediterranean in terms of maritime security and defense of European interests, thereby contributing to the stabilization of the area.
