Visit of the Force Commander of EUNAVFOR MED IRINI to Sigonella Forward Operating Base

 

Monday 7th October 2024. The Force Commander of EUNAVFOR MED IRINI, Rear Admiral Prokopios CHARITOS, visited Sigonella Italian Air Force Base.

The logistics facilities in Sigonella, Pantelleria, Augusta and Souda, are fundamental operational enablers to ensure effective technical and logistical support to the naval and air assets of the operation EUNAVFOR MED IRINI.

The predominant tasks of these logistic bases are: refueling, accommodation, personal reception, transport of personnel, materials, medicines and health care.

The Sigonella Air Base Command is responsible for providing logistical, administrative and technical-operational support to personnel and units stationed or transiting in the base, in order to ensure a continuous and relevant support to operations.

Colonel Stefano SPREAFICO, Commander of the Forward Operating Base (FOB), presented to Rear Admiral CHARITOS the capabilities of the base and all air assets currently operating in support of IRINI: the Italian P-72A aircraft, the BE350 aircraft from Germany, the M28-BIR aircraft from Poland and the SW3C Merlin III aircraft from Luxembourg.

At the end of the visit, Rear Admiral CHARITOS, thanked the personnel operating in Sigonella Air Force Base for their fundamental and valuable contribution to the activities carried out by the Operation.
